Soda Pop

SO watching Biggest Loser last night (thank you DVR/TiVO) I came across the question session with the editor of Prevention Magazine and her statement about soda pop. The question was True or False, Drinking Diet Soda will make you live longer (or something like that). The answer, False. Ok ok so I know this, it is nothing new. My brother (the Doc) has told me to stop drinking soda. I know it is bad for me and as a family we have decided that no more caffeine soda will be consumed by our family. But we still buy soda. Ughh it is so hard to stop and I don't really want to. I like the taste I like the feel of it in my throat. I am addicted and it is going to take a lot for me to quit. But the editor did say something that I thought was interesting. Maybe I have heard it before but through selective hearing I have never let it sink in. Soda contributes to tummy fat. OMG do I really need that??????

Runner Advice

I am thinking about buying the Garmin Forerunner 305 what do you, who run out there in blog land think? My sister has one and we used it on our last run on Saturday (5 miler) and it seemed kind of cool. But I don't know what else might be out there. I do a lot of running both out of doors, on a track and on a treadmill. I use mapmyrun.com so I can sync it and stuff but I just wanted to see what you experts or friends thought. Let me know.

Thank you!

Running Update

4th Week for 1/2 Marathon Training.

Things are going ok. I wasn't able to run on Saturday because I got sick so I missed my first 5 miler. Shouldn't be too much of a problem though since I have to run a 5 miler this week. I ran a 3.5 last night (almost died afterwards) still sick but I ran about 11:15 per mile so still pretty darn good in my book.

I am going to the shoe store tonight though and getting new shoes. I have noticed that my arches are starting to ache a little about mile 2 and my feet are a little bit stiff this morning. I knew that they have about 400 or 500 miles in them and I calculated that they would probably last me until February but I am still amazed at how different they feel simply because I have been running. Had I not gotten new shoes after my first few months of running I don't think I would have noticed but there really is a differece when you have a good pair of running shoes.

1/2 Marathon Update

So I took that week off when we went to Texas so I am still on Week 2 of my training (1/2 Marathon Training by Hal Higdon) but Windy and I pumped out our 4 mile on Saturday like we had been running all week. It was very nice.

Yesterday was my mid-week run (3 miles) and it was my best time ever. I ran each mile in 11 minutes 12 seconds. I was running on the track so it was even more satisfying seeing my cross training efforts actually working. When Windy and I run on the treadmill (at Lady Fitness) we always do hill type runs and now when we run our short runs we are going to do them at a faster pace. I am so excited it is all working out so well. Ok well I am back to work but had to share the great news with everyone!

Get Out And Live!
